The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has come out swinging in response to claims that it benefited from funds disbursed by the National Signals Bureau (NSB) ahead of the 2024 elections.
Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know from their fiery rebuttal:
1. NDC denies ever receiving GHC ¢8 Million
The NDC has flatly rejected any involvement in the alleged disbursement of over GH¢8 million by the NSB. According to the party, it never received a dime for election logistics or any covert operation as claimed in a controversial memo by former NSB boss, Kwabena Adu-Boahene.
2. Allegations stem from a leaked memo
Adu-Boahene’s memo, reportedly addressed to the National Security Coordinator, suggested that the money in question was distributed to opposition parties to assist with election preparations. He also claimed the GH¢49 million he is being investigated for was used for national security operations—not personal gain.
3. NDC not specifically named, but fires back anyway
Even though the memo didn’t directly name the NDC, the party wasted no time in distancing itself. According to Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, Deputy Director of Elections and IT, any suggestion that the NDC benefited from such funds is baseless and insulting.
4. NDC alleges Some opposition parties are ‘pretenders’
Dr. Tanko suggested that some so-called opposition parties may actually be working hand-in-hand with the ruling NPP, citing how they often side with the Electoral Commission against the NDC during Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meetings.
5. NDC calls for clarity and prosecution, not distractions
The NDC is urging the government to come clean about the alleged misuse of public funds and to stop using opposition parties as scapegoats. They called the allegations a desperate attempt to divert attention from real issues and urged Adu-Boahene to negotiate a plea bargain if guilty, rather than drag others into the mess.
