Buying A Car For A Family Member Was My Greatest Regret – President Mahama

President John Mahama opened up about his “most regrettable experience” of his life on Saturday, April 19, at the Kwahu Business Forum.

According to him, this was an attempt to get a family member to start a company with the aim of alleviating the financial strain he was facing when he was a member of parliament.

President Maham noted that he once bought a bus for a cousin to operate a modest transportation business, but everything went crashing because of poor management, and ended up becoming one of his most expensive errors.

He said the bus’s poor management and frequent overloading caused the mechanical breakdown, hence what was supposed to be a source of revenue turned into a continual financial drain when the vehicle’s axle finally snapped from the pressure.

He added that the vehicle cost him more to maintain and would have been better for him to donate the money.

President Mahama explained that he later found out that the driver, a family member who lived in his family home, was using company money to construct a personal home. Everything changed for the worse, and that home is still incomplete now as he sold the bus and cut his losses.

He said “Ever since I sold the bus, that building, which had reached the lintel level, is still at lintel level—even today.”
