A fiery political drama is unfolding in Ghana’s Ahafo Ano South East Constituency, with actress Vivian Jill Lawrence at the center of a storm stirred by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Women Organiser—Meeri.
What started as whispers of contract awards has now exploded into threats, outrage, and accusations of betrayal. Here’s a breakdown of the controversy that’s got social media buzzing:
1. It all started with a whatsApp voice note
A voice note allegedly recorded by Meeri, the NDC Constituency Women Organiser, went viral after being shared in one of the party’s WhatsApp platforms. In it, she passionately condemned the awarding of a school feeding contract to actress Vivian Jill, claiming it was done behind her back and disrespected local party structures.
2. Vivian Jill allegedly given a contract from Accra
Meeri claims that while she hasn’t even received her official appointment letter as the women organiser, someone from Kumasi (Vivian Jill) allegedly received a contract from higher-ups in Accra to handle the School Feeding Programme in her territory.
“How does it happen that as the constituency women organiser, I have not received my appointment letter, but someone from Kumasi receives an appointment letter from Accra to be walking about in my constituency seeking to execute school feeding? Waalahi, it won’t happen,” she stated.
3. Threats of violence over contract dispute
In a shocking twist, Meeri openly threatened Vivian Jill in the same voice note, vowing to harm her or anyone she sends to cook under the contract.
“I have told Vivian Jill herself to dare come to cook if she is a woman… she will return with amputated hands. I will personally chop off her hands, I, Meeri, said so,” she declared.
4. Ready to go to jail for it
Meeri didn’t hold back, saying she would gladly face jail time for what she plans to do if the contract goes ahead.
“I will chop off her hands and go to jail. I prefer just that,” she added with chilling certainty.
5. Anger over being sidelined
Beyond the personal feud, Meeri’s message reflects a broader frustration with how local party members are allegedly overlooked despite their contributions on the ground.
“You think you are the only ones worthy of riding in cars, the only ones worthy of building houses. You want us to remain your uncivilised stooges,” she lamented.
6. Ashanti Regional Women Organiser Accused
Meeri also accused the Ashanti Regional Women Organiser of bypassing her in the decision-making process and directly awarding the school feeding contract to the actress.
7. Silence from Vivian Jill and NDC Leadership
As the controversy grows, Vivian Jill and the NDC leadership have not yet issued any public statement addressing the allegations or threats. Meanwhile, the School Feeding Programme, which plays a key role in Ghana’s educational system, remains a hotbed of political tension.
