President John Dramani Mahama has offered a reassuring update on the health of Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, confirming that she is recovering well and expected to return to Ghana before the end of the week.
“I bring you greetings from H.E. the Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. I’m happy to state that I spoke to her on Thursday, May 15, and she will be back in the country before the end of the week,” Mahama said. “By God’s grace, she’s fully recovered, and she’s going to come back to her duties.”
His remarks were made during a durbar at the Old Ghanata Astroturf in Dodowa on Friday, May 16, as part of his ongoing “Thank You Tour.”
The announcement comes in response to mounting public curiosity and concern, especially among opposition party members, regarding Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s health.
The Vice Presidential has been in the United Kingdom receiving medical attention following what has been described as a “brief illness.”
In recent weeks, members of the Minority and sections of the public have raised questions about her condition, calling for transparency and clarity amid her absence from public engagements.
Some critics even speculated about her capacity to resume active campaigning, as political activities ramp up ahead of the December general elections.
President Mahama’s statement, however, seeks to put all doubts to rest, affirming not only her full recovery but also her readiness to resume her responsibilities as a key figure in the NDC’s campaign machinery.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, a respected academic and the first female Vice-Chancellor of a public university in Ghana, has remained a central figure in Mahama’s political strategy and an emblem of gender representation in leadership.
