Ghanaian dance icon, Dancegod Lloyd, recently opened up in a heartfelt conversation on the Konnected Minds podcast — and trust us, it got real.
For the first time, he pulled back the curtain on the emotional rollercoaster he faced after leaving the popular DWP (Dance With Purpose) crew, and how that decision almost cost him everything.
Here’s a breakdown of the key things he shared:
1. The backlash hit harder than expected
After he parted ways with DWP, the internet wasn’t kind. Social media went into overdrive, dragging him without knowing the full story. “They didn’t know the story,” he said, adding that the criticism really got to him.
2. It triggered deep emotional turmoil
“I was disturbed, I was depressed, I was thinking differently,” Lloyd confessed. The comments weren’t just noise — they affected his mental health and made him question everything he’d built.

3. He felt like he lost his identity
From being one of the most visible faces in the dance scene to feeling like a shadow, he explained: “I felt like I lost myself, my name, the fame… It was my darkest moment.”
4. He feared he would fade into obscurity
At some point, the fear of becoming irrelevant crept in. “I was thinking about fame at that moment… like nobody’s going to see me again,” he admitted. The uncertainty was overwhelming.
5. His father’s late-night call changed everything
In a surprising twist, support came from someone unexpected — his dad. “My dad called me in the middle of the night. He does not call me at that time… He was like, ‘These things happen to the greatest.’” That call sparked something in him.
6. Encouragement from industry heavyweights kept him going
Not only did family show up, but big names in the industry also reached out to uplift him. He received voice notes and calls that reminded him of who he was — and who he still could become.

7. He sees it now as a blessing in disguise
Looking back, Lloyd describes that painful period not just as a setback, but a setup for something greater. “It was my darkest moment, but my blessing in disguise,” he said with a sense of calm and clarity.
