The New Force political movement has issued a heartfelt public apology following a disturbing incident involving one of its security personnel who assaulted a supporter during a public event.
In a video that has since gone viral, a bodyguard reportedly part of Nana Kwame Bediako’s (Cheddar) entourage was seen forcefully punching a fan in the stomach as the individual tried to approach the presidential candidate to speak with him.
The unprovoked attack has sparked widespread outrage online.
In a strongly worded statement, the New Force condemned the assault and emphasized that such conduct has no place in their campaign or values.
“We are deeply saddened and disturbed by a recent incident captured on video in which a member of the security team assigned to our presidential candidate was seen physically assaulting a supporter who was merely attempting to speak with the candidate,” the statement read.
“The individual in question was unarmed, posed no threat, and deserved nothing but dignity and respect.”
The movement acknowledged the disappointment of the public and offered a direct apology to those affected.
“We extend our sincerest apologies to the victim and their family, and to all Ghanaians who rightly expect better conduct from those associated with our movement.”
Calling the act “unacceptable, unjustifiable, and entirely out of line,” the New Force assured the public that a full investigation has been launched and that the bodyguard involved will face appropriate consequences, both legally and internally.
“We have launched an immediate investigation into the incident, and we assure the public that the perpetrator will be held fully accountable under the law and internal disciplinary processes.”
They further reaffirmed their commitment to transparency and respect for democratic values, adding:
“We are committed to restoring public confidence by ensuring that such behavior is never repeated. We thank the public for bringing this matter to light and for holding us to the highest standard.”
The apology comes at a crucial time as the New Force builds momentum ahead of the 2024 elections, positioning itself as a new voice for change.
