Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo has raised fresh concerns over the ongoing process to remove her from office, revealing that her attempt to bring alleged human rights violations to the attention of the Supreme Court was shut down at the request of the Attorney-General.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, the Chief Justice disclosed that she had filed a supplementary affidavit detailing violations she says she began experiencing from the outset of the hearing process.

“I swore to a supplementary affidavit alerting the Supreme Court of human rights violations I had already started encountering at the hearing,” she said.

According to Justice Torkornoo, not only was her request for an open hearing denied, but the Supreme Court also struck her affidavit from the record entirely.

“The members of the Supreme Court that heard the application refused my application for an open hearing, and the supplementary affidavit informing the court of violations of human rights was also struck out of records on the request of the Attorney-General,” she explained.

The Chief Justice noted that the violations have only worsened since then, compelling her to address the nation directly.

“I have decided to make this statement today because the violations have not stopped, but have escalated beyond anything I could have imagined as possible in justice delivery,” she added.
