Ghana’s most iconic rap concert, Rapperholic, is set to make history as it heads to Kumasi for the first time since its inception.

Sarkodie, the award-winning rapper behind the brand, paid a royal visit to the Manhyia Palace on July 18, 2025, to officially inform the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, of his plans—and received the King’s blessing and promise to attend.

Origin of Rapperholic

Launched in 2011, Rapperholic began as a promotional concert for Sarkodie’s album of the same name.

Over the years, it has evolved into a December staple in Accra, drawing thousands of fans and featuring top-tier performances from Ghana’s finest. The concert has become synonymous with lyrical excellence, cultural pride, and showbiz prestige.

Why Kumasi matters

Bringing Rapperholic to Kumasi is more than a change of venue—it’s a symbolic return to Sarkodie’s roots.

The Ashanti Region, rich in tradition and musical influence, offers a new cultural backdrop for the concert.

The Baba Yara Sports Stadium will host the event on September 27, 2025, marking a rare moment where mainstream rap meets royal endorsement.

Otumfuo’s endorsement

During the visit, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed his excitement and confirmed his intention to attend the concert personally.

He praised Sarkodie’s humility and consistency, advising him to remain grounded and avoid unnecessary rivalries in the music industry.

His presence at the event is expected to elevate its significance, blending entertainment with tradition.

What fans can expect

  • Electrifying performances from Sarkodie and surprise guest artists
  • A fusion of hip-hop and traditional Ashanti aesthetics
  • Cultural tributes and royal acknowledgments
  • A celebration of Ghanaian resilience, artistry, and unity

Impact on Ghana’s music scene

Rapperholic’s move to Kumasi signals a decentralization of Ghana’s entertainment landscape.

It opens doors for regional engagement, inspires young artists in the Ashanti Region, and reinforces the idea that Ghanaian music thrives beyond Accra. With the Asantehene’s backing, the concert is poised to become a national spectacle.
