The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has announced plans to establish a National Music Museum and Hall of Fame to preserve and celebrate the legacies of Ghana’s music icons, including the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba.

MUSIGA president Bessa Simons revealed that the initiative aims to address the lack of proper documentation on Ghanaian musicians.

“We are embarking on documenting our artists. There is no data about them anywhere. For instance, when you mention a great musician like CK Mann, there is no proper documentation on him.

“We will include Lumba in the list. That is the reason why we want a national music archive to honour such icons,” he said in an interview with Graphic Showbiz.

According to Simons, the museum will preserve the history and contributions not only of Highlife but of all genres created and performed in Ghana. The Hall of Fame will serve as a space where visitors can explore everything related to Ghanaian music in one place.

As part of the tribute to Daddy Lumba, MUSIGA will organise a special concert and workshops to highlight his unique contribution to Highlife music, which Simons described as transformative.

The project seeks to ensure that future generations can access the stories, achievements, and cultural impact of Ghana’s greatest music legends.
