The woman at the centre of a viral domestic abuse video, Harriet Azumah, 32, has shared further details of the alleged assault she suffered at the hands of her husband, John Odartey Lamptey, at their Ofankor home in the Greater Accra Region.
Portions of the incident, which have drawn widespread public attention, were captured in a video circulating online.
Harriet, who had moved out of the marital home months earlier due to persistent abuse, said Lamptey called on November 15, claiming their youngest child was seriously ill.
She travelled to Accra but found the children in good health, and Lamptey later admitted he had fabricated the story to lure her back.
She alleges the issue became worse, with Lamptey blocking her from approaching the children, threatening her life, and physically attacking her with a stick, stepping on her, and at one point, wielding a knife. Harriet further claims he smeared pepper on her body and forcibly had sex with her.
A neighbour, identified as Oketeku, reportedly intervened by persuading Lamptey to unlock the door and removing the knife, but the assault allegedly continued after he was driven away. Harriet noted that previous complaints to Tesano and Ofankor police stations had failed to yield action.
Lamptey was arrested on November 17, along with two siblings, Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey, who allegedly tried to attack a female tenant suspected of recording and circulating the video.
All three have been remanded by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit and are expected to reappear in court on December 3, 2025.
Police say the victim has since left the residence and are appealing to the public to provide credible information to assist with ongoing investigations.
