Radio and TV pundit, Abena Moet has argued that nurses should be evaluated for empathy and compassion before being employed aside from their educational skills.
She made this comment while on UTV’s United Showbiz when the discussion was about Michael Blankson’s recent complaint about UGMC’s poor medical services, that contributed to the loss of her mother, despite paying a Ghc250,000 bill.
“This is a wake-up call to our healthcare system. I always say that, the nurses before you complete your course and passed, they have to check your empathy level. I always say, empathy should be no.1 because this job if you don’t have empathy and compassion, it’s definitely not for you.
“Some of the nurses have seen way too many bodies that, now they have no compassion and feel no empathy so they care less when someone dies and tell you, that others have died so, if yours is also dead, it’s nothing new. “
“If the rich, who can even pay any bill, are complaining of bad health service, then what about us, the poor ones?.
Abena Moet added that Michael Blankson should go ahead and sue the hospital if he feels, it was because of negligence by staff of the hospital that made him lose her mother, so it serves as a deterrent to other health workers and hospitals.
