Pope John SHS Kicked Me Out In My Final Year – D-Black Recounts How His Career Clashed With School

Ghanaian rapper and businessman D-Black has disclosed that he was expelled from Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary for repeatedly breaking the rules to pursue his musical career.

The “Vera” singer recently opened up about how his love of music clashed with the strict regulations of the Catholic boys’ school, which resulted in his expulsion during his final year.

Speaking in an interview with Blac Volta, he said, “In my final year, I faced expulsion. In boarding school, you are suspended the first time you violate the rules. You’re deboarded the second time. And you are expelled the third time”.

He added that “Leaving the Koforidua boarding school without permission to go to Accra to record songs with Obrafour and Edem was his first infraction. I dropped out of the boarding school in my first year to come to Accra for the sole purpose of rapping.

“I got the chance to record at a studio. Hammer was working on a compilation CD there, while Obrafour and Edem were recording. We were invited to join them. I was suspended for the first time.”

D-Black noted that he had broken the school’s rules and regulations to further his music career despite the initial warning, which resulted in harsher penalties the following year.
