The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), a prominent South African leftist political party, has vehemently rejected the accusations recently levied by the US Senate against Burkina Faso’s president, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
During a hearing by a representative from U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), the Senate accused Traoré of diverting Burkina Faso’s gold reserves for his personal security instead of using the resources to benefit the people of the country.
In a swift response, the EFF denounced these claims, labeling them as part of a broader imperialist strategy aimed at destabilizing an African nation that is asserting its sovereignty over its natural resources.
According to the party, such allegations are nothing more than an effort to undermine the leadership of African states that challenge foreign interference.
Taking to social media, the EFF expressed its firm stance: “We condemn the West’s continued interference in African nations’ affairs and their attempts to control our resources.”
The party strongly supports Traoré’s decision to redirect Burkina Faso’s gold towards national security and development, viewing it as a necessary step in resisting neo-colonial pressures.
The EFF sees the accusations as part of a larger pattern of Western meddling in African governance.
It believes that these tactics are designed to delegitimize leaders who prioritize the welfare of their people over foreign interests.
The party also emphasized that African nations must retain the right to determine how their resources are used without external interference.
In its statement, the EFF made it clear that they stand firmly with Traoré, recognizing his efforts to ensure that Burkina Faso’s gold is used for the nation’s progress, not for the benefit of foreign powers.
