Nollywood actor Mike Ezuruonye has paid glowing tribute to veteran actor Pete Edochie, calling him “a visionary and a true pathfinder of Igbo culture” during a touching visit that stirred emotions across the film industry.
In a video making the rounds online, Mike was seen warmly embracing the iconic actor as he arrived with thoughtful gifts to honour the living legend.
The visit, filled with mutual admiration and cultural pride, highlighted the deep respect younger Nollywood stars continue to hold for their predecessors.
“I’m deeply honoured to be in the presence of a legend,” Mike said. “Your works have shaped minds and helped preserve our culture. You are a visionary and a true pathfinder of Igbo culture.”
Pete Edochie, known for his commanding screen presence and resonant voice, is widely celebrated as one of the founding pillars of modern Nigerian cinema.
He rose to prominence in the 1980s for his unforgettable role as Okonkwo in the NTA adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, a performance that cemented his place in African storytelling.
Over the decades, Edochie has featured in over 200 films, often portraying wise elders, kings, and fathers — roles that mirror his real-life stature in Nollywood and among his Igbo roots.
The gesture by Mike Ezuruonye is being praised as a timely celebration of legacy and humility, especially in an industry that continues to grow through the foundation laid by legends like Edochie.
