A senior journalist with EIB Network’s Kasapa 102.5 FM is urging President John Dramani Mahama to introduce compulsory paternity testing for all newborns, arguing that too many men in Ghana are unknowingly raising children who are not biologically theirs.
During a live programme on Kasapa FM, he appealed to the President to make DNA screening part of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
“I am pleading with the President to add DNA tests to the National Health Insurance. The President should add the paternity test to the National Health Insurance. In the same way women have maternal care, he should provide that for men, too,” he said.
He argued that mandatory testing would protect men who suffer emotional and financial consequences when they invest in children they later discover are not theirs.
“This is because the number of men wasting their investments is becoming too much. Men who are paying fees for children that are not theirs are becoming too many,” he stressed.
Describing the situation as a national concern, he called for the testing to be conducted immediately after birth.
“Men who are suffering are becoming too many. I am pleading that the DNA test must be done right after the child is born at the hospital,” he said.
According to him, integrating paternity testing into routine healthcare would provide fairness and certainty for families while preventing long-term disputes.
