Beninese singer and global music icon Angélique Kidjo has been named among the 2026 inductees for the Hollywood Walk of Fame, making her the first African artist to receive the honour.
The announcement was made by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, placing Kidjo alongside other notable recipients such as Miley Cyrus, Timothée Chalamet, and Deepika Padukone.
The honour recognises individuals who have made significant contributions to film, television, music, and other branches of entertainment.
Kidjo has had a long and respected career in music, blending Afrobeat with other global genres including jazz, Latin sounds, funk, and gospel.
Her discography includes albums like Logozo, Eve, Celia, and Mother Nature, earning her five Grammy Awards and global recognition.
Beyond music, Kidjo has been active in humanitarian work.
She serves as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and founded the Batonga Foundation, which promotes access to education for girls and supports women-led initiatives in Africa.
She is also known for her advocacy in areas such as gender equality and human rights.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame selection committee acknowledged the impact of her work and stated that her contributions fit the profile of individuals whose influence has extended beyond their field.
While a date for the unveiling ceremony has not yet been announced, Kidjo and the other honorees are expected to schedule their events within the next two years.
