Sarah Adwoa Safo has made a passionate case for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rally behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as their candidate in the next election.
According to her, despite the challenges faced under the current administration, the Vice President should be given another opportunity to lead the party into the 2028 elections.
The former Dome Kwabenya MP dismissed calls for a change in the NPP’s leadership, emphasizing that perseverance in politics has often led to success.
“We will support him. Every person deserves a second chance. Nana Akufo-Addo won the election on the third attempt. People even said that he had been cursed and could not become president, but he became president. So why have we presented a ticket, and you’ll come and say we should not present him again?” she questioned.
Her comments come amid ongoing discussions within the NPP about the future of the party’s leadership following the 2024 elections. While some members are pushing for a new face, Adwoa Safo believes that Bawumia, like past leaders who faced electoral setbacks, has a strong case to return as the party’s flagbearer.
She also acknowledged that mistakes were made during the NPP’s time in office, pointing to the government’s perceived insensitivity to public concerns.
“We know that as a government we were wicked to the Ghanaian people. MPs were targeted when they spoke about the government, but we all know that they were telling the truth,” she admitted.
Despite this, she remains convinced that the party’s best path forward is to stick with Bawumia, learn from past mistakes, and reposition itself for victory in 2028.
