Free Africa, don’t flee Africa—Giorgia Meloni calls out Western exploitation

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is adding her voice to the growing call for an end to the exploitation of Africa by Western powers. Speaking passionately about the root causes of migration and economic hardship across the continent, Meloni didn’t mince words.

“The solution is not to take Africans and move them to Europe. The solution is to free Africa from certain Europeans who exploit it and allow these people to live off what they have,” she stated.

Her message zoomed in on one controversial example — the CFA franc. “This is called the CFA franc, a colonial currency that France prints for 14 African nations, and by virtue of which it exploits the resources of this nation.”

Meloni described the devastating reality behind this arrangement, painting a vivid picture of a child working in a gold mine in Burkina Faso. “Burkina Faso is one of the poorest nations in the world.

For Burkina Faso, which has gold, France prints colonial currency. In return, it demands that 50% of everything Burkina Faso exports ends up in the coffers of the French treasury. The gold that this child crawls into a tunnel to extract mostly ends up in the coffers of the French state.”

Her comments resonate with those made by American TV host and entrepreneur Steve Harvey, who also didn’t hold back in his assessment of Africa’s position in the global economy.

“Africa is the only continent that doesn’t have to import anything,” Steve said in a powerful message directed at the West. “Africa was supposed to be a great independent continent thriving on their own if the West would let them be.

They don’t need your oil, your gold, your food, or your cattle… because they have everything.”

According to Steve, the real issue isn’t Africa’s lack of resources but the systemic exploitation that prevents the continent from reaching its full potential. “Africa continues to be exploited,” he said bluntly.
