Hopeson Adorye reveals his GHC 2,700 monthly salary as a National Security Officer at KIA

Hopeson Adorye, a former prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has opened up about his time as a national security officer at Kotoka International Airport (KIA), sharing insights into a role many believed was financially lucrative.

Adorye, who was appointed to the position during former President Akufo-Addo’s tenure in 2017, revealed that despite the high regard associated with working at such a prestigious location, his monthly salary was far from what the public might have imagined.

In a candid revelation, Adorye disclosed that he was paid GH¢2,700 per month, a figure that added up to an annual salary of just GH¢38,000. This stood in stark contrast to the assumptions held by many that the job came with a hefty paycheck.

Reflecting on his initial reaction, Adorye recalled, “My first, second, third pay and the rest were GH¢2,700, yet you people keep spewing nonsense.”

He went on to share a personal moment when he first saw the salary details upon receiving his appointment letter from the national security coordinator. Disappointed, he sought an audience with then-President Akufo-Addo to discuss the matter.

During their conversation, Adorye expressed a desire to be seconded as a national security officer from the Jubilee House, hoping for a more appropriate remuneration for his responsibilities. Unfortunately, despite his efforts, nothing substantial came out of the discussion.

The revelation sheds light on the often-overlooked aspects of high-profile roles and underscores the gap between public perception and the reality of many government positions.

Since then, Hopeson Adorye has been relieved of his duties, but his experience offers a rare glimpse into the complexities of working within Ghana’s national security sector.
