Police in Kokrobite have arrested a couple for allegedly beating a 13-year-old girl, identified only as Baby, to death in a shocking incident that has left residents deeply disturbed.
According to accounts shared with United Television (UTV), the tragedy unfolded after the girl’s father returned home from work. His wife who is not the biological mother of the child reportedly accused the teenager of being a “thief,” claiming she had eaten leftover food meant for her brother.
Sources say the father, enraged by the complaint, assaulted the young girl severely. The beating is said to have continued until the child became unresponsive.
Residents told UTV that the girl’s lifeless body was left under a mango tree overnight. It was only the following morning that the couple carried the body into their home. Community members who witnessed the incident alerted the police.
Officers quickly moved in to arrest the stepmother, who was at home at the time. The father was later picked up as investigations progressed.
Police confirm that both suspects are in custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death.
