A grieving Ghanaian woman has accused medical staff at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital of refusing to treat her dying uncle during a severe asthma attack, citing the ongoing nationwide strike by health workers.

In an emotional public account, she described how her 30-year-old uncle – married just three years and without children – was left to struggle for breath on the hospital floor while his wife pleaded in vain for help.

“Workers at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, today my uncle had a serious asthma attack. When he was brought there, he was struggling, but because you people are on strike, you refuse to take care of him,” the woman stated in a video circulating on social media.

She recounted how her aunt offered to “pay any amount” for emergency treatment, only to be told the hospital was observing strike action.

The tragic incident highlights the human cost of the industrial action by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) over unresolved salary and working condition disputes.

While emergency services were supposedly exempted from the strike, multiple reports suggest deteriorating patient care at major hospitals as the standoff continues.

“Let’s put profession aside; we are all humans…” the bereaved woman pleaded, her voice breaking with emotion as she described watching her uncle – a young man in the prime of life – being denied potentially life-saving care.
