In a viral video gaining traction on social media, Zimbabwean medical doctor and activist Arikana Chihombori-Quao has delivered a passionate call to action, urging Africans to support the bold steps taken by Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger to push back against neo-colonial influence in Africa.
“What’s happening in Burkina Faso must be supported. What’s happening in Mali must be supported. What’s happening in Niger must be supported,” she declared, her voice rising with conviction.
She questioned how Africa could ever free itself from the grip of its former colonizers if these efforts are not backed wholeheartedly.
“If you care the least bit about our future, how else are we going to get France out of Africa? How else are we going to get Britain, Germany, all those former colonizers… They are now in as multinationals, syphoning billions out of Africa, using safe havens to hide their returns.”
Labeling the Western powers as “wolves in sheep’s clothing,” Chihombori-Quao pointed to the global powers’ continued economic stranglehold over African resources. She cited the recent action by Niger as a pivotal example of resistance.
“If you look at the move that Niger made by simply saying, France, you can no longer buy our uranium for 80 cents a kilo. When we know very well you are selling it for 200 euros per kilo.”
She highlighted the absurd imbalance, stating that while Niger earned around a billion annually from its uranium, France profited up to 300 billion from the same. “That one move alone, when Niger said, if you want our uranium, 200 euros a kilo, please. Immediately. 300 billion.”
Chihombori-Quao argued that Africa already has everything it needs to thrive but lacks the collective will to assert itself. “It’s not going to take much to change Africa. We got what it takes. If there is one thing we are very fortunate of, we are endowed with everything the rest of the world needs.”
