Lawyer Appiah Kubi, a legal stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and representative for embattled Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has provided clarity on his client’s current situation amid swirling reports and political speculation.

Speaking to the media, Lawyer Kubi addressed the confusion surrounding Wontumi’s reported inaccessibility, stating that while challenges exist, the matter is firmly under legal control and is being handled without theatrics.

“We know where he is” – Appiah Kubi clarifies

Responding to earlier claims that Wontumi was missing or had been moved without notice, Kubi assured the public and party faithful that his client’s location is known and under control.

“Yes, why not? We know where he is,” he said, adding that efforts had been made to arrange a meeting between Chairman Wontumi and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. However, the situation on the ground—marked by large crowds and logistical difficulty—prevented the interaction from taking place.

“We had brought him to meet with the Vice President, but the situation we saw was difficult to arrange this meeting, to pass through the crowd to get the Vice President to see him and talk to him. So we had to take him back,” he explained.

Kubi also mentioned that Wontumi’s health is of concern, saying, “His condition of health requires attention.”

Caution against political drama

Addressing what he described as unnecessary drama, Kubi advised against politicizing the issue.

“You don’t start throwing stones when you want to enter the house,” he said. “If you use the right way, you’ll get the right results.”

He emphasized that due process is being followed, adding that public officers had stayed late to assist and cooperate with his team in handling the matter professionally.

“We encountered some difficulty which will be sorted out on Monday. Then we will have a fresh slate to operate,” he said.

Legal focus over political theatre

Making his intentions clear, the respected lawyer declared that he would not indulge in the political theatre surrounding the case.

“I beg you, all of you, I will stay out of the politics and the theatre and I’ll do the work within the law,” he firmly stated.

Wontumi’s legal dreams highlighted

In a revealing aside, Appiah Kubi noted that Wontumi has a strong interest in law himself.

“The chairman wants to be a lawyer and he appears to be a lawyer,” he said, suggesting that his client is both informed and fully engaged with the legal process being pursued on his behalf.

Background

Chairman Wontumi has become the center of political discussion after news broke of his being under investigation. Conflicting reports about his whereabouts and EOCO’s alleged obstruction of access to him sparked concern within the NPP leadership.

However, Lawyer Appiah Kubi’s update appears to have calmed some of those tensions, laying the groundwork for a more structured legal approach to the unfolding situation.
