As Real Madrid seek their 15th Champions League title, Carlo Ancelotti has hailed the current squad as the best he has ever had in his career.
The Italian coach made the declaration in the wake of Los Blancos’ qualification to the 2024 UEFA Champions League final, after a comeback victory against German club, Bayern Munich.
On Wednesday night, in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against the Bavarians, Los Blancos fell behind in the 68th minute through an Alphonso Davies thunderbolt.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men fought back and got their equalizer, a gift delivered to them by Manuel Neuer, whose only mistake of the night cost Bayern so much.
The winner came for the record Champions League title holders, Real Madrid, in added time when Joselu scored the Spanish club’s second to secure the ticket to Wembley to take on Borussia Dortmund.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Carlo Ancelotti praised his players’ work ethic in the 2-1 victory over the Bavarian giants, Bayern Munich.
Why wouldn’t they, when the Italian coach labelled his side as soft after their 2-2 draw with Bayern in Munich in the first leg?
“Unbelievable,” Carlo Ancelotti reacted when speaking to TNT Sports about the performance of his players.
“I’m really grateful to them because they worked really hard, there has been a fantastic atmosphere. They are really humble, really generous,” the Italian added.
Seeking his 5th Champions League medal as a manager, Carlo Ancelotti labelled the current Real Madrid players as the best squad he had ever had in his career.
That is certainly an honour to these players, given that Carlo Ancelotti has managed some very good squads over the course of his career.
If this isn’t motivating enough to let these players help Carlo to his 5th and Real Madrid’s 15th Champions League title, they must be expecting something really outrageous from their manager to fire them up.
The Real Madrid manager said of his current squad, “I think it’s the best squad that I’ve ever had in my career.”
Reflecting further on their performance on the night, the coach said, “I think we played well. We had opportunities, good control of the game and we had the strength to go up when they scored.”
“It happened again here, it’s quite useful that in the Bernabeu, with the support of our supporters, we can do something unexpected,” he added.
Carlo Ancelotti reserved some praise for the two-goal hero, Joselu, saying, “Joselu did a fantastic job, he’s a fantastic striker. We could use the wings more to put in crosses and we did really well, we had a lot of energy at the end of the game.”
Carlo Ancelotti’s men take on Borussia Dortmund on June 1, 2024, at Wembley.
