After having a groin injury on Thursday, Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez will not be available for selection as he will miss the rest of the season.
The 2022 World Cup winner had a below-par performance in Tuesday’s game against London rivals Arsenal, where Chelsea got battered in an embarrassing defeat at the Emirates Stadium.
It is believed that Enzo Fernadez had been suffering hernia for quite a while, and that has affected his performances on the pitch.
With Chelsea having to fight for only a European place this season, Enzo Fernandez decided to have his surgery so that he would recover in time to play in the Copa America for Argentina in June.
The 23-year-old Argentina star will now sit out Chelsea’s last six league fixtures as he recovers after the surgery to his groin.
This is quite a blow for Chelsea, but the youngster’s absence will give other players the opportunity to show what they have.
Enzo Fernandez is the latest to join a long list of absentees for Chelsea, with Reece James, Levi Colwill, Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia, Wesley Fofana, and Robert Sanchez, all out through injury.
As many players struggle to stay fit, Chelsea’s form has also deteriorated this season, and after being beaten in the Carabao Cup final by Liverpool, they also lost to Manchester City in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, and currently sit ninth in the Premier League table.

The pressure on Mauricio Pochettino has just increased with the news of Enzo Fernandez missing the rest of the season following his surgery.
“Enzo Fernandez has today undergone successful surgery on a groin issue and will now begin a period of rehabilitation, sidelining him for the remainder of Chelsea’s 2023/24 season,” Chelsea said in a club statement.
“The 23-year-old midfielder will work with the club’s medical department on his rehabilitation at Cobham.”
After his £107 million move from Benfica to Chelsea in January 2023, Enzo Fernandez has struggled somewhat, managing just three goals in 28 Premier League appearances.
