Former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has said that he is a big fan of Jurgen Klopp, as he visited Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre on Friday to spend the day with the German coach and his coaching staff.
Fernando Torres, who played for Liverpool for four years, during which he scored 81 goals in 142 appearances, and has had a successful playing career, is now building his coaching career.
He returned to his former club Atletico Madrid in 2021 to take charge of the club’s U-19 side, after retiring from his playing in 2019.
Now forty years old, and a budding football coach, Fernando Torres needs all the knowledge in the coaching business to help him succeed, and learning from some of the best managers, is something that could help him a lot.
When he visited his former club Liverpool to spend the day with the coaching staff, Fernando Torres was there to learn from one of the best in the business, Jurgen Klopp, a man he says he is a big fan of.
Fernando Torres’ visit to Liverpool’s training centre to learn from Jrugen Klopp and his coaching staff comes at a point when Liverpool are searching for a new coach, as the German manager will be leaving his role at the end of the current season.
Xabi Alonso, who was Fernando Torres’ teammate, and now coach of Bayer Leverkusen, has since ruled himself out of being the new head coach of Liverpool once Klopp steps down, leaving the Anfield club to look elsewhere for their new manager.
Xabi Alonso confirmed on Friday that he was going to stay at Bayer Leverkusen.
Fernando Torres said during his visit to the Liverpool training centre that it was an opportunity for him to see what was going on at the club and saw it as a great opportunity while saying that Jurgen Klopp is a man he is so fond of.
“I’ve had the opportunity to see how everything works from the inside, which is great,” the former Liverpool striker told Liverpool’s official website.
“I’m a big fan of Jurgen and his staff all around the AXA training facility, which is very different to when I was here, so obviously the club grows a lot and I have the chance to see why,” Fernando Torres added.
For him, it was amazing to meet Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff, allowing him to learn a lot of things that would help his coaching career.
“There are many reasons but it’s amazing to be here and to be able to meet with Jürgen, Pep [Lijnders] and all the staff to learn and try to understand the Liverpool way,” Torres said.
Reacting to what he had learned from his visit, Fernando Torres said he had learned “many things,” adding that Jurgen Klopp’s charisma and character are things he admired, as he believes the way he treats the players and the personal relations he has with them is the reason the club is doing so well on the pitch.
“Many things,” he said about what he had learned from his day with the Liverpool coaching staff on Friday.
“The main thing, maybe, is this charisma and this character of Jürgen and his staff with the players. He treats everybody like a family, which I think is the main thing,” he added.
“I really believe in the personal relations between the players, the staff and the workers and everybody involved in the club. It’s the key to performing this way. I’m seeing from inside that they think the same way, which is really nice.”
With Liverpool taking on Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday in the English Premier League, Fernando Torres will be in attendance at Anfield to have a closer look at how Jurgen Klopp sets his team up.
