Ghana Black Stars duo, Gideon Mensah and Elisha Owusu will be playing top-flight football in the French Ligue 1 next season, after their club, Auxerre secured their promotion on Saturday afternoon.
This is a remarkable achievement for the club, as they are back in the top flight of French football just a year after they suffered relegation from the league.
Gideon Mensah has been a stalwart at the back for Auxerre, as he has been for the Black Stars, with his international teammate, Elisha Owusu running the show in midfield for the club.
The Black Stars duo clinched promotion with Auxerre with two games to spare, after their 2-0 victory against Paris FC which put them 6 points clear at the top of the Ligue 2 table.
Goals from Lassine Sinayoko and Ado Onaiwu were enough to clinch promotion for Auxerre.
They have not been necessarily electric in terms of goal returns, but Gideon Mensah and Elisha Owusu have been pivotal in Auxerre’s drive to the top of French football once more.
With two assists, Gideon Mensah has made 24 appearances.
You would not expect much from a defender, would you?
His task is primarily to keep opposing players away from his team’s goal.
Elisha Owusu, on the other hand, has had a goal and two assists to show for his 32 appearances for Auxerre this season.

With two more games to play against Amiens SC and Concarneau, Auxerre’s lead atop the Ligue 2 table is unassailable, confirming their promotion to Ligue 1.
With 20 wins, 10 draws and only six losses so far, Auxerre have been the team to beat in Ligue 2 this season, and they have deservedly booked their spot in the French top flight for next season.
Gideon Mensah and Elisha Owusu join Abdul Issahaku Fatawu in celebrating promotion to top-flight football next season, although it is not yet clear if Leicester City’s Young Player of the Season, Abdul Issahaku Fatawu, will play Premier League football with the club next season.
Speculations, though, are that Leicester City will sign the Black Stars winger permanently from Sporting Lisbon, which will be good news for Steadfast FC.
