Newly appointed General Manager of the Golden State Women’s WNBA team, Ohemaa Nyanin, interjected her acceptance speech with a statement in Twi and the video is gaining momentum on the Ghanaian landscape of the internet.
She expressed her gratitude to God for blessing her with such wonderful parents, highlighting that their unwavering support has been instrumental in her success.
Nyanin was officially introduced at a press conference on Monday morning, where she sat alongside Warriors owner Joe Lacob.
In her new role, she will oversee all basketball operations, which includes tasks such as roster construction, team building, and player development.
The Golden State squad was founded this year and is scheduled to start playing in 2025.
Before she was appointed the general manager of the Golden State team, Nyanin spent over five years working with the New York Liberty in various capacities, most recently serving as the assistant general manager.
As the assistant general manager, Nyanin played a crucial role in bridging the gap between the basketball and business operations teams.
She contributed to important aspects such as free agency, trades, salary cap management, and roster extensions.
Her previous positions included director of basketball operations from 2020 to 2022, and manager of basketball operations from 2019 to 2020.
During her tenure with the New York Liberty, the team achieved three WNBA playoff appearances, with their most notable accomplishment being a trip to the 2023 WNBA Finals as the second overall seed.
