What began as a quiet night in Lakeside, Accra, quickly spiraled into a nightmare when a mother and her son were attacked in their own home by three armed men.
But in the face of fear and violence, a young man made a split-second decision that changed everything—he stood his ground, not with a weapon, but with courage.
Speaking with visible emotion, the young man recounted how the robbers stormed into their home, threatening both his life and that of his mother.
One of the intruders pointed a gun at him. But instead of cowering, he did something few would dare—he looked the gunman in the eye and said, “I’m not afraid. If you’re going to shoot, shoot.”
In a moment that shocked everyone, the robber fired into the ground, hesitating just long enough for the brave young man to lunge at him. What followed was a struggle that shook the entire compound.
The noise alerted neighbours who quickly rallied and rushed in to help. In the chaos, one of the robbers was fatally wounded. Another, injured during the scuffle, was restrained and handed over to the police.
The third managed to escape and remains on the run.
Though the trauma of that night still lingers, many in the community are calling the young man a hero—not just for saving his mother, but for showing that courage doesn’t always come with a weapon.
Sometimes, it comes from the instinct to protect the people we love, no matter the odds.
