Outgoing Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has seemingly endorsed his potential successor, Arne Slot, saying he likes how the Dutchman’s team plays football.
If Arne Slot does become Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp believes he will be stepping into the best job in the world.
Even though some people, including club legend, Jamie Carragher, have their preferences for who should manage Liverpool when Klopp leaves, Arne Slot’s achievements make him someone worthy of a chance at Anfield as manager.
The 45-year-old Feyenoord manager is a proven title winner as he led the Dutch club to the Dutch title in 2022/23 and won the Dutch Cup this month.
For Jurgen Klopp, it is not even the titles he has won, but his style of play, as the German manager says Slot’s team’s style of play excites him.
Even Liverpool captain, Virgil van Dijk, has spoken highly of Arne Slot, as he believes his attacking philosophy would be very good for Liverpool if he does join the club.
“I like the way his team plays football. If he is the one, I like that he wants it,” Jurgen Klopp told reporters on Friday, adding, “I don’t know him, but some people who know him say he’s a good guy. I like that a lot. So good coach, good guy. Looking forward for the club, if he is the solution, if he is the man, I’m more than happy.”
“It’s the best job in the world, best club in the world. Great job, great team, fantastic people. A really interesting job.”
With PSV Eindhoven nine points clear at the top of the Eredivisie table in Holland, Arne Slot’s Feyenoord, in second place, are unlikely to win the league.
Jurgen Klopp on the other hand, is currently playing catch-up in a three-way English Premier League title race.
At the time Klopp announced his exit, Liverpool were in the hunt for so many titles: the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Europa League, and the Premier League.
They have only managed to win the Carabao Cup so far, are out of the Europa League, and are unlikely to capture the Premier League title.
They also got dumped out of the FA Cup by Manchester United in the quarterfinals stage.
Notwithstanding the collapse, Jurgen Klopp has won several trophies since his arrival in 2015, including the Champions League.
If Arne Slot gets the job, he would have big shoes to fill, but Klopp believes the Liverpool job is an exciting one for anyone who takes over from him.
Klopp feels that the fact that his team is unlikely to win the league title this season means that expectations will be high for anyone who takes over, as a room, according to him, has been left for improvement.
“Helps, obviously, with not finishing on a high, it looks like. There’s room for improvement, let me say it like that,” he said ahead of Saturday’s trip to West Ham.
The German tactician does not expect Manchester City or Arsenal to slip up at this stage of the season, which means the league title is effectively out of their hands now.
“We have to be positive. I’m pretty sure Arsenal and City see it as a two-horse race. They might have to say something different publicly. But I don’t think they expect to lose two games,” Klopp said, adding, “If they do, it would be silly not to be there so we have to win our games.”
